On October 14, Xiao Jie, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, attended the opening ceremony of the 2024 National Evaluation Capacities Conference in Yanqing District, Beijing, and delivered a keynote speech.
Xiao emphasized the important role of public policy evaluation in modernizing China’s national governance system and capacities. The country has been strengthening principle-based guidance and institutional development, and conducting extensive evaluation practices, initially forming a public policy evaluation system with Chinese characteristics. China stands ready to work with all parties under the Global Development Initiative framework to develop evaluation systems tailored to each country’s conditions, strengthen capacity building, enhance quality and effectiveness, and foster international cooperation, thereby providing strong support for national and global endeavors in this regard.
Xiao Jie met with Achim Steiner, Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and held a group meeting with senior international representatives attending the event.
The conference, themed “Responsive Evaluation: For Government, For Inclusion, For the Future”, was co-hosted by China International Development Cooperation Agency and the UNDP. Following the work plan of central authorities, relevant departments in Beijing Municipality and Yanqing District worked diligently on reception, conference services, and city operations to ensure the conference’s success. Mu Peng, Vice Mayor of Beijing, attended and addressed the opening ceremony.
