In the third year of implementing the Regulations of Beijing Municipality on Improving Language Environment for International Exchanges (hereinafter referred to as “Regulations”), districts and authorities across various sectors in Beijing have focused on core tasks, fully leveraging resources to build signature brands and offer targeted, convenient foreign-language services. Such efforts have effectively facilitated the implementation of the Regulations, contributing to the improvement of the foreign-related service environment, thus boosting high-quality development. Let’s look at how they achieved it!
Beijing Municipal Commerce Bureau: Making the International Fair for Trade in Services a Global Brand
Committed to providing quality services to people from all over the world, the Beijing Municipal Commerce Bureau is well prepared to offer an excellent language environment for the 2024 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS). To this end, the language services for participant reception, and bilingual logos and signs of the amenities at the venue have been standardized, the English website of the CIFTIS has been promptly updated, and a bilingual guide for the 2024 CIFTIS has been crafted and delivered to offices of over 80 countries and international organizations in China.

Beijing Municipal Transportation Commission: Optimizing English Services in Transportation Scenarios
The Beijing Municipal Transportation Commission has intensified efforts to optimize English services in transportation scenarios. To date, a total of 21 urban rail transit stations have been equipped with multilingual translation devices with online translation services in 8 languages, including English, French, Russian, Japanese and German. Beijing Pass, an international travel card designed specifically for foreign visitors, has been launched. As part of its efforts, the Commission has also helped three bike-rental operators, including Meituan Bike, provide English services on their Apps or WeChat mini programs.

Beijing Municipal Administration of Government Services and Data Management: Contributing to Beijing’s International Services with Multilingual Information
By providing diversified and convenient payment, living, traveling and tourism services to foreign nationals and investors, the Beijing Municipal Administration of Government Services and Data Management strives to improve the quality of multilingual information available on the International Web Portal of Beijing. The English articles published by the WeChat official account “BeijingService” cover topics such as recommendations for scenic spots, convenient payment, and other matters of interest to foreigners in Beijing. To improve user experience, the English version of “Jingtong” App has been updated based on the needs of foreign nationals, introducing service guidance for high-frequency affairs.

Beijing Overseas Talents Center: “Hi Beijing” Continues to Go Viral
Centering on “Procedures for international talent” and “Demeanor of international talent”, Beijing Overseas Talents Center produced a series of bilingual videos themed “Hi Beijing” and published them on various domestic and overseas social media platforms. The English version of A Guide for Expats to Work in Beijing has been given out at seven international talent communities, two airports, five high-speed railway stations, and administrative service windows at municipal and district levels, offering convenient and targeted information services to expats.

Aiming at enhancing bilingual services at Beijing museums, the Beijing Municipal Cultural Heritage Bureau has urged 21 national first-class museums to accept online reservations or offer English services on ticketing channels. Beijing Municipal Administration Center of Parks: Staying committed to providing convenient English ticket booking services
“Visiting Beijing Parks”, the official ticketing platform under the Beijing Municipal Administration Center of Parks, and self-managed ticketing platforms of six parks including the Summer Palace and Temple of Heaven have all launched their English versions. Bilingual ticketing information boards have been set up at general service windows, with bilingual staff ready to help foreign tourists access ticketing information and bookings.
