On the afternoon of June 30, the “Foreign Diplomats Experience Beijing” series event, co-hosted by the Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality and Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM), took place in the BUCM. A total of fifteen diplomats from ten countries including Grenada, Serbia, Singapore, Nepal, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, Zambia, Chad, and Dominica had an immersive experience of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).
At the BUCM, the diplomats gained a systematic understanding of the history and cultural connotations of TCM for the first time. “Traditional Chinese medicine is amazing!” they said in admiration.
The lecture on “TCM’s Contribution to the World” helped the diplomats learn about relevant theories in the field, such as the five elements, yin, and yang, as well as how TCM’s holistic view and dialectical treatment is applied in practice.
The next stop was the Exhibition Hall of Chinese Materia Medica, where diplomats witnessed the profoundness of TCM and how far it has gone in recent years by integrating the past and the present, the East and the West.
Diplomats also tried TCM diagnosis and treatment such as massage, acupuncture, cupping, ear acupuncture, four diagnostic methods of TCM (inspection, listening, inquiry, and palpation), and moxibustion.
The comprehensive TCM culture and clinical experience, including TCM diagnosis, distinctive treatments, and regimen philosophy have impressed the diplomats. They thought highly of the heritage of TCM culture and the application of TCM diagnosis and treatment techniques in modern life.
