The closing ceremony and awards ceremony of the 2nd "Beijing·A Global City" Short Video Contest was held online on the afternoon of December 13. 17 entries were awarded the first, second and third prizes, and 15 institutions, including Beijing Technology and Business University (BTBU), won the Outstanding Organization Award.
Hosted by the Foreign Affairs Office of the People's Government of Beijing Municipality and organized by CRI Online, the contest focuses on such fields as serving and supporting major diplomatic activities, improving facilities to serve capital’s functions, pooling international high-end resources, and enhancing the international service environment. It seeks great short videos on Beijing's image as "a global city", aiming to show what Beijing has achieved in improving its role as the center for international exchanges in a multifaceted way and to present a true, multidimensional and panoramic view of Beijing as an international metropolis.

The contest kicked off at the cooling tower of Big Air Shougang on August 24. During the event, six offline photoshooting activities were organized on such themes as Beijing's achievements in promoting urban renewal, hosting Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, serving major national diplomatic events, internationalized environment and services, international cooperation in science and technology innovation, innovation and entrepreneurship of global talent in Beijing, and international education. Hundreds of people, including diplomats, foreign journalists, experts and students in Beijing and staff working in the capital’s foreign affairs departments were invited to visit and interview in the Shougang Park, the Central Gifts and Cultural Relics Management Center, Sanlitun, China-Germany Industrial Park, Shine Hills and Honav Cultural Park, Dongsheng Science and Technology Park and Dongsheng International Science and Technology Park, Springboard International Bilingual School and Beijing Huijia Private School. Four introductory short videos were filmed and produced under the titles of "Cafes in Hutongs", "International Elements in the Park", "International Organizations in Beijing", and "Walking into the Roundtable on International Exchange".
Since its commencement, the contest has drawn widespread attention and support from the general public, expatriates, organizations, and the media in the city. As of November 10, over 160 outstanding works from different institutions and individuals have been received, well-made with distinctive features. Some were full of vigor and vitality, some displayed the city's profound history, some sounded like joyful minuets, and some felt like placid prose poems. In these videos, you could see Beijing's internationalized living environment and advanced infrastructure, how foreigners live, work, and chase their dreams here, the unparalleled 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics, and the story of jointly building exchange platforms as well as mutually beneficial cooperation between China and other countries. They gave a panoramic view of Beijing, a vibrant global city.

After review, the first prize went to two works - "Chasing Dreams in Beijing" and " Seeing Beijing in All Aspects". Five videos including "The Second Hometown - A Canadian's 18 Years in Beijing" claimed the runner-up spot, 10 entries like "Hometown Is Where I Settled Down" came in third place, and another 20 including "One Day in Beijing" were recognized with an honorable mention. Going forward, such exceptional works will be promoted through sister-city relations, international conferences and people-to-people exchange as well as social media at home and abroad and other channels.
