On the afternoon of 14 October, the seventh United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) Congress World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders concluded in Daejeon, South Korea, with members of the policy-making bodies of UCLG for the next term (2022-2025) being elected. Beijing was re-elected as a member of UCLG World Council and Executive Bureau.
UCLG is the largest international organization of local and regional governments in the world. More than 1000 cities, local, regional, and metropolitan governments and their associations and international organizations are members of UCLG, committed to global collaboration among cities, and implementation of important documents including the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and New Urban Agenda under multilateral frameworks. Approved by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, Beijing has joined UCLG since October 2006, under the Asia/Pacific Section. In 2007, Beijing was elected as member of the UCLG World Council and Executive Bureau, and has been re-elected since then. The World Council and Executive Bureau are the principal policy-making bodies of UCLG, and are responsible for final decisions on UCLG's agendas, cooperation projects, funding budgets, etc.
