On the morning of November 22, the Beijing-Wellington Business Fair and Promotion Event on Policies of the "Two Zones" was successfully held. About 60 participants from two municipal governments, business associations and enterprise representatives attended the meeting, and more than 40 enterprises of the two cities joined the meeting online.

In his speech, Andy Foster, Mayor of Wellington, said that in the face of the Covid-19, it is vital for the two cities to strengthen and maintain communication. Wellington attaches importance to the economic and trade relationships with Beijing and hopes to share the development opportunities provided by “Two Zones” and jointly promote scientific development and trade diversification.

According to Liu Meiying, Full-time Deputy Director of the leadership office of the "Two Zones," the construction of “Two Zones” represents the high-level opening of the capital and has achieved remarkable results. It is embracing more “global partnerships” and providing more opportunities and energy to deepen the cooperation between China and New Zealand. We see the great potential for investment and cooperation in the two cities and hope to explore new ways for industry and project cooperation and invite more New Zealand enterprises to invest and develop in China, starting a phase of high-quality development of China and New Zealand.

The leadership office of the "Two Zones" and Beijing Investment Promotion Center introduced the new policies and achievements since Beijing constructed “Two Zones” a year ago as well as the open and shared business environment and investment advantage of Beijing. Tongzhou District introduced its industrial development as the Beijing Municipal Administrative Center as well as the achievements it made in improving the environment for enterprises to develop and in attracting foreign investments. Wellington Chamber of Commerce and Wellington Regional Economic Development Agency focused on the local diversified economic development and the challenges and future development ideas brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. 

During exchanges and interaction, more than 40 enterprises from the two cities, including FuWah International Group, JD Worldwide, Wellington International Airport and other cross-border e-commerce, business services, high-end manufacturing and financial services enterprises talked about culture and tourism, aviation services, e-commerce, etc.

Both sides agreed that in the future Beijing and Wellington will focus on new development opportunities, take advantage of their industrial and resource advantages, and work even more closely to plan an overall new blueprint for win-win cooperation.

This year marks the 15th anniversary of the establishment of sister-city relations between Beijing and Wellington. It is another exchange co-hosted by two cities following the opening ceremony of the series of anniversary events, “Smart City” seminar, Beijing tourism resource promotion event, exchange of experience in the business environment and other events. In the future, Beijing will hold offline book and picture exhibitions in Wellington to show the local citizens the new look of Beijing, the preparations for the Winter Olympics, and the achievements of the exchange between the two cities, as well as to donate books of traditional Chinese culture, Beijing tourism resources and the promotion of the Winter Olympics to strengthen friendship and people-to-people bonds between the two cities.
