Beijing Theme Day held during 2020 CIFTIS

On September 9, the last day of 2020 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), “Beijing Theme Day· Lead to Openness” was held in China National Convention Center. It included three segments, “leading city, open city and impression of the city”. Vice Mayor of Beijing Wang Hong, leaders from Beijing's 12 districts and three foreign representatives introduced the new development and outlook of Beijing's service sector and trade in services from different perspectives.

In recent years, the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and the People's Government of Beijing Municipality have attached great importance to the development of the service sector. Vice Mayor Wang Hong made a presentation on further opening up the service sector from such perspectives as key areas, policy continuity, environment, advantages and unique features, charting the city's blueprint to build an open economy suitable for the development of the service sector. Three foreigners, as representatives of embassy personnel, entrepreneurs and international students in Beijing, shared with the audience their experiences of working, living and studying in Beijing over the years.

In the open city segment, 12 district leaders spoke of highlight projects in their own districts focusing on the four topics of digital empowerment, technology-driven development, cultural and tourism innovation, and financial opening-up. These projects included Zhongguancun Science City in Haidian District with a focus on digital economy, Jinzhan International Cooperation Service Zone in Chaoyang District, Beijing Daxing International Airport in Daxing District, Beijing International Cooperation Industrial Park (Sino-German Park) in Shunyi District, Huairou Science City in Huairou District, Jingping Logistics Hub in Pinggu District, Century-old Golden Street (Wangfujing Street) in Dongcheng District, and Yanqing's tourism promotion program focusing on the city's beautiful scenery, winter sports and summer resort. Surrounding the topic of financial development, representatives of Xicheng District, Tongzhou District, Fengtai District and Shijingshan District spoke on featured financial projects and their respective plans and goals for the development of the financial sector.

The 2020 Assessment Report on the Environment for the Service Sector in Beijing was officially released at the event. Raymund Chao, PwC Asia Pacific and China Chairman, read out the research results on the four dimensions: openness of the service sector, regulatory service for investment, intellectual property protection and promotion, and coordinated regional development.

The event was simultaneously live-streamed in both Chinese and English on the official website and app through the CIFTIS digital platform. The public can watch the whole event online and get updated on the development of Beijing's service sector.

The event was attended by about 160 representatives from the Ministry of Commerce, the People's Government of Beijing Municipality, relevant departments and districts of Beijing Municipality, foreign diplomatic missions, chambers of commerce, business associations and enterprises.
