On the morning of August 6, the inauguration ceremony of the Beijing Research Center of International Exchanges took place at the China Institute of International Studies (CIIS). The launch of the research center marks an important step China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has taken to support the efforts of improving Beijing's role as a center for international exchanges, and epitomizes the fruitful collaboration between the MFA and the city on building think tanks for this purpose.
Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, the research center will focus on serving the overall needs of China's diplomacy and the needs of Beijing's high-quality development. Revolving around the key issues and challenges in the process of building Beijing into an international exchange center, it will carry out forward-looking research on policies and other related issues, give full play to its role as a think tank for the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and the People's Government of Beijing Municipality, and provide much needed intellectual support.
Director General of the Beijing Foreign Affairs Office Xiong Jiuling and CIIS President Qi Zhenhong unveil the plaque for the research center in the presence of other MFA leaders.
Xiong Jiuling, Director General of the Beijing Foreign Affairs Office, said in her speech that advancing Beijing's role as an international exchange center is a glorious mission entrusted by General Secretary Xi Jinping. The establishment of the research center coincides with the first anniversary of the Leading Group for Improving Beijing's Role as a Center for International Exchanges. She hoped that the research center can adapt to the new development requirements in the new era, and as an important think tank for the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and the People's Government of Beijing Municipality, help pool wisdom and resources and build consensus.
Qi Zhenhong, President of the CIIS, noted that establishing the research center is an important measure to implement the instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping and speed up the building of Beijing into an international exchange center. It is an important part of the efforts of implementing the requirements of State Councilor Wang Yi and the MFA Party Committee, supporting the efforts to build Beijing into a center for international exchanges, and advancing cooperation between the MFA and the capital city. The CIIS will provide strong support for the sustainable development of the research center and provide advice and other resources to fuel the efforts of making Beijing a high-quality center for international exchanges.

The research center is a new type of non-profit think tank dedicated to promoting the building of Beijing into an international exchange center. It is jointly administered and run by the Beijing Foreign Affairs Office and the CIIS.
