To tell engaging stories about Beijing and make its voice heard, the Translation and Interpretation Center of Beijing Foreign Affairs Office, in collaboration with China Academy for Public Policy Translation of Beijing International Studies University, has initiated a series titled “Understand Beijing: One Key Phrase a Day”. From this year’s Beijing Government Work Report, thirty seven trending policy buzzwords have been selected. Their elucidation, along with the official translation, is now being published to highlight the significant measures Beijing has undertaken in pursuit of high-quality development and the resultant achievements. Through this series, we aim to foster a deeper understanding of our city among foreign institutions and nationals in Beijing.
Two demonstration zones
These are the national demonstration zone for green development and the demonstration zone for quality-oriented growth, encompassing Beijing Tongzhou District and its three neighboring counties in Hebei Province.
In August 2021, the State Council issued guidelines for high-quality development in the Beijing Municipal Administrative Center. The guidelines emphasize the need to enhance environmental stewardship by turning the region into a national demonstration zone for green development, featuring extensive green spaces and a well-designed, comprehensive eco-conservation system. Additionally, these guidelines call for creative approaches to collaboration between Tongzhou District and the three adjoining Hebei counties, covering planning, management, public services, and business environment, so that this area will soon become a demonstration zone for quality-oriented growth.
