Recently, Yin Yong, Mayor of Beijing, met with John Hoffman, CEO of the GSM Association (GSMA).
Yin said that Beijing is a vibrant modern metropolis where ancient heritage and modernity converge. The city is home to China’s top mobile communications operators, leading enterprises in mobile communications technology R&D and terminal equipment manufacturing, as well as standards-setting organizations. It has a solid foundation for the development of the mobile communications industry, abundant resources for artificial intelligence (AI) research and innovation, mature international open platforms, and well-established supporting industries. Beijing has built an innovation ecosystem across the entire industrial chain that covers communications, computing power, AI, satellite and space sectors, as well as a complete innovation chain that spans basic research, technological breakthroughs, commercialization of research achievements, and practical application. Yin noted that GSMA is a globally renowned mobile communications industry organization. He expressed the hope that the two sides will strengthen exchanges and leverage their respective resources to expand cooperation in digital technology innovation and commercialization of research achievements, and promote global collaborative innovation and open development of 6G and AI, so as to achieve mutual empowerment and win-win outcomes. Beijing will continue to optimize its business environment and provide better services for various digital technology enterprises looking to grow in the city.
Hoffman expressed great confidence in China’s prospects for opening up and spoke highly of Beijing’s achievements in its mobile communications industry. He said that GSMA has witnessed the rapid development of China’s communications industry. The association will leverage its global resources to actively build an inclusive and diverse industrial ecosystem, deepen resource exchange and experience sharing, and enable communications technology innovation to support global development and improve the well-being of people around the world.
