Recently, Yin Yong, Mayor of Beijing, met with Susan Langley, Lady Mayor of the City of London.

Yin Yong said that in January this year, President Xi Jinping met with U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Both sides agreed to develop a long-term, stable, and comprehensive strategic partnership between China and the U.K. Beijing stands ready to work with the City of London to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, deepen exchanges and cooperation, and contribute to advancing bilateral relations at the subnational level. In recent years, Beijing has fully leveraged its rich resources in education, technology, and talent to drive high-quality economic development, supported by sci-tech innovation and modern services. The city is home to numerous national financial authorities, key financial infrastructure platforms, financial industry associations, and headquarters of financial institutions. In recent years, Beijing has focused on strengthening its role as the national financial management center and promoting the opening up of the financial sector through the Two Zones initiative. Both Beijing and London are financial management hubs and financial centers with global influence in their respective countries. With a solid foundation and broad prospects for cooperation, Beijing stands ready to maintain close exchanges with the City of London, enhance mutual learning in financial development, expand practical financial cooperation across more areas, and facilitate cross-border investment and financing between financial institutions and enterprises in both cities, so as to achieve mutual benefit at a higher level.

Susan Langley spoke highly of Beijing’s economic achievements, emphasizing that Beijing is an important partner of the City of London, and cooperation between the two has yielded fruitful results over the years. She expressed her hope to translate the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries into concrete actions, and deepen cooperation with Beijing in areas such as two-way investment and green and sustainable finance, so as to make greater contributions to the bilateral relations between the two countries.
