Recently, Yin Yong, Mayor of Beijing, met with Tran Duc Thang, Minister of Agriculture and Environment of Vietnam.
Yin Yong said that China and Vietnam are good neighbors connected by mountains and rivers, and a community with a shared future that carries strategic significance. In April this year, General Secretary Xi Jinping visited Vietnam and, together with General Secretary To Lam, charted a new chapter in building the China-Vietnam community with a shared future. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Vietnam, as well as the China-Vietnam Year of People-to-People Exchanges. Beijing will ensure effective implementation of the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, strengthen exchanges and cooperation with relevant Vietnamese departments and local governments, and contribute to the continuous improvement and advancement of China-Vietnam relations. In recent years, Beijing has, in alignment with General Secretary Xi’s directives on Beijing’s development, actively practiced the philosophythat lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets, pursued growth with reduced input while avoiding overstretching its limited resources, and explored effective solutions to “big city malaise”. We have dedicated ourselves to building a Beautiful Beijing, adopted well-targeted measures to combat air pollution, accelerated the green and low-carbon transformation of the energy mix, and continuously improved water and soil ecosystems. Building on efforts to become a forest city and a park city, Beijing is systematically building itself into a garden city and working to keep our skies blue, waters clear, and lands clean. As a result, Beijing’s eco-environment has seen fundamental improvement, and environmental protection and economic and social development have achieved mutual reinforcement and coordinated progress. Beijing stands ready to further strengthen communication and coordination with the Vietnamese side, share experience in urban governance, and deepen exchanges and mutual learning in eco-environment fields such as air pollution control.
Tran Duc Thang spoke highly of Beijing’s remarkable achievements in environmental protection in recent years. He said that the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment of Vietnam is willing to act on the important consensus reached by the two countries’ leaders and to enhance exchanges and cooperation with Beijing in areas including ecological and environmental governance, thereby contributing to the continued development of friendly bilateral relations.
Pham Thanh Binh, Vietnamese Ambassador to China, and Zeng Jin, Secretary General of the Beijing Municipal Government, also attended the meeting.
