On the afternoon of September 16, Li Xiuling, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal People’s Congress, met with Viput Srivaurai, Chairman of the Bangkok Metropolitan Council.

Li Xiuling said that China and Thailand are good neighbors connected by mountains and rivers, good relatives tied by kinship, and good partners with a shared future. In November 2022, Chinese President Xi Jinping paid a historic visit to Thailand, ushering bilateral relations into a new era of building a community with a shared future. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand. Guided by the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, we stand ready to work with Thailand to uphold the tradition that “China and Thailand are one family” and to further deepen the building of a China-Thailand community with a shared future. Since the establishment of the sister-city relationship between Beijing and Bangkok, the two cities have maintained close exchanges and cooperation across various fields, producing significant and tangible results. The Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal People’s Congress will continue strengthening exchanges and cooperation with the Bangkok Metropolitan Council in such areas as local legislation, share experience on urban development and governance, and promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges. These efforts will further deepen the sister-city relationship and help build a China-Thailand community with a shared future.

Viput expressed his delight at visiting Beijing on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and China, noting the city’s remarkable development achievements. The Bangkok Metropolitan Council is willing to strengthen exchanges and mutual learning with the Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal People’s Congress, so as to provide legal support for the development of the two capitals.

After the meeting, Li Xiuling and Viput signed a memorandum of understanding on strengthening friendly cooperation between the Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal People’s Congress and the Bangkok Metropolitan Council.
