On the morning of March 27, Yin Yong, Mayor of Beijing, met with Daren Tang, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), who attended the 2025 ZGC Forum Annual Conference in Beijing.

During the meeting, Yin said that, with abundant education, sci-tech and talent resources, Beijing boasts strong competitiveness in sci-tech innovation on the international arena. As a role model of China’s sci-tech innovation, Zhongguancun has turned into a hub of cutting-edge and sophisticated sci-tech innovation enterprises in recent years, with notable innovation achievements in sectors such as artificial intelligence (AI). We have always prioritized intellectual property (IP) protection by actively engaging in IP pilot reforms, and building Beijing into an international commercial arbitration center, thus providing a solid foundation for sci-tech innovation. Beijing has maintained positive cooperation with WIPO. Yin looked forward to WIPO’s continued support to Beijing in sci-tech innovation and IP. He hoped that the two sides can deepen cooperation in IP protection for emerging industries, and international and professional talent cultivation. He also called for joint efforts to assess the new challenges and issues in IP brought by emerging technologies, including AI and the digital economy.

Tang congratulated on the successful convening of the 2025 ZGC Forum Annual Conference, and spoke highly of Beijing’s achievements in sci-tech innovation and its efforts in creating a dynamic innovation ecosystem. He highlighted WIPO’s commitment to furthering IP cooperation with Beijing in AI, digital technological innovation and arbitration services, and devoting more efforts in joint talent cultivation, so as to boost Beijing’s development of new quality productive forces.

Wang Binying, Deputy Director General of WIPO, and Zeng Jin, Secretary General of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, attended the meeting.
