Yin Yong, Mayor of Beijing, recently met with Andrew Barr, Chief Minister of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT).
Yin said that Chinese President Xi Jinping’s meeting with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on the sidelines of the G20 Summit last November chartered the future course of China-Australia relations. Under their strategic guidance, the China-Australia relationship has been steady and improving in recent years. Under the new Master Plan of Development, Beijing is pursuing high-quality development with reduced input and is committed to promoting green development while maintaining stable economic growth. Beijing is also dedicated to improving environmental protection, comprehensive transportation governance and people’s livelihood. Effective governance system of super-large cities is also being explored. As this year marks the 25th anniversary of the sister-city relationship between Beijing and the ACT, Beijing is willing to take this opportunity to work with the ACT to deliver on the common consensus reached by the two heads of state. Efforts will be made to facilitate exchanges in such fields as urban planning, construction and governance to further consolidate the sister-city relationship between Beijing and the ACT, thereby contributing to the sound and stable development of bilateral ties between the two countries.
Barr spoke highly of Beijing’s achievements in environmental protection and green development, and expressed his willingness to further exchanges and cooperation with Beijing in areas such as green energy and urban governance. The aim is to write a new chapter of the sister-city relationship and continuously push the bilateral ties to a higher level.
Zeng Jin, Secretary General of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, attended the meeting.
