Yin Yong, Mayor of Beijing, met with José Viñals, Chairman of Standard Chartered on the morning of January 10.
Yin Yong stated that China’s economy has delivered a generally stable performance while making progress over the past year, with its major goals and tasks of economic and social development accomplished. The extensive growth potential and opportunities of China’s economy hold strong appeal for enterprises and financial institutions worldwide. He noted that Beijing has achieved high-quality development with reduced input by further implementing the new Master Plan of Development for Beijing. The city has seen stable economic progress, dynamic urban innovation, and continuous improvement in overall labor productivity, which remains among the highest in China. Beijing boasts abundant financial resources, as it is home to national financial regulatory agencies, headquarters of numerous domestic and international financial institutions, and international financial organizations. The city is further opening up its financial sector through the “two zones” development. Yin encouraged Standard Chartered to capitalize on the opportunities and advantages presented by Beijing’s development, continuously expanding its business presence in the city and fostering mutually beneficial cooperation in areas such as green finance and asset management. It is hoped that this bilateral cooperation will stimulate two-way investments between enterprises from both sides, contributing to dialogue, exchange, and win-win cooperation between the business communities of China and the UK. Beijing will implement the “service packages” and “steward services” mechanisms to deliver higher quality services for enterprises developing in the city.
Viñals highly praised the economic and social success of Beijing and China, reaffirming the unwavering commitment of Standard Chartered to Beijing and China. Meanwhile, he pledged to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation with Beijing in areas such as wealth management, green finance, and technological innovation. The group is ready to serve as a bridge to support the continued growth of China-UK economic and trade relations.
Zeng Jin, Secretary-General of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, attended the meeting.
