On the afternoon of December 19, the 2024 Beijing Forum on Swift Response to Public Complaints concluded at the China National Convention Center. Wei Xiaodong, Chairman of the CPPCC Beijing Municipal Committee, and head of the “Swift Response to Public Complaints” Reform Working Group of the Commission for Comprehensively Deepening Reform of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, attended the closing ceremony and made a concluding speech.
Wei stated that the Beijing-based forum, featuring a national scope and a global perspective, has brought together international participants dedicated to modernizing urban development and governance to discuss urban governance strategies. The forum has fostered extensive consensus on addressing global challenges, promoted the people-centered governance philosophy, and gathered valuable insights for enhancing urban governance. Moving forward, with a commitment to serving the people, Beijing will actively build itself into a city for the people, one that effectively responds to public needs and addresses their concerns. The goal is to become a beautiful city that truly belongs to its residents while serving and supporting their development. Greater efforts will be made to modernize urban governance. As success only favors those who boldly forge ahead, Beijing strives to pioneer a path for modernizing super-large city governance with Chinese characteristics. This will enhance the city’s attractiveness, creativity, and influence, providing strong support for Chinese modernization. Furthermore, Beijing will work to build a global community of cities with a shared future, embracing the principle that a journey with many companions goes far. All these efforts, including heeding global voices, deepening exchanges and cooperation, and promoting collaborative governance, will continuously inject dynamic impetus into the development of Beijing, China, and cities around the world.
The closing ceremony featured the release of the Beijing Declaration on Modernizing Urban Governance (2024), and various activities such as My Stories About “Swift Responses to Public Complaints”, Youth Dialogue on Future Urban Governance Modernization, Dialogue on Practices in Urban Governance Modernization, and Dialogue on Theories of Urban Governance Modernization. Through diverse forms such as story sharing and dialogues, these activities further strengthened the consensus on urban governance modernization.
The closing ceremony was attended by leaders from central authorities and Beijing Municipality, including Cai Lixin, Zhao Rui, You Jun, Xia Linmao, and Sima Hong. Also present were Han Yu, Secretary-General of the CPPCC Beijing Municipal Committee; leaders of foreign cities, foreign diplomats in China, representatives from Chinese offices of international organizations, as well as experts and scholars.
