The 6th Forum on China-Africa Media Cooperation & China-Africa Think Tank High-Level Dialogue was held in Beijing on August 21, 2024. Li Shulei, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, attended and addressed the opening ceremony.
The attendees stated that, under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and African leaders, China-Africa relations have entered a new stage of jointly building a high-level China-Africa community with a shared future. In addition, the upcoming Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) will further strengthen China-Africa friendship and solidarity. Adhering to the principles of “sincerity, real results, amity and good faith” and in continuation of the traditional China-Africa friendship, the media and think tanks should tell the story of China-Africa cooperation and development well, thereby contributing to China and Africa’s joint endeavor to advance modernization.
As the attendees pointed out, the modernization achievements in China and Africa prove the fact that developing countries have the right and the ability to independently explore a modernization path with distinctive features that suit their national realities. Modernization should be high on the agenda of both the media and think tanks in China and Africa. It is important to study and promote the modernization theories and practices of developing countries, and jointly explore a path to high-quality development and prosperity that is more resilient, inclusive and beneficial to all. This will provide intellectual and public support for the Global South countries in addressing modernization challenges.
With the theme of “Join Hands in the Paths towards Modernization”, the forum was supervised by the State Council Information Office, and co-hosted by the National Radio and Television Administration, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, and the African Union of Broadcasting. During the forum, relevant departments of China and African countries signed six agreements pertaining radio and television, launched 20 cooperation projects, and organized activities such as the “Friendship and Cooperation” achievements exhibition. More than 500 representatives from government departments, media outlets, think tanks and international organizations of China and over 40 African countries attended the forum.
