On April 19, Yin Yong, Mayor of Beijing, met with London Breed, Mayor of San Francisco.
Yin said that, last November, President Xi Jinping and President Biden held a summit meeting in San Francisco, where they discussed strategic and overarching issues critical to the direction of China-U.S. relations, charting the future-oriented "San Francisco vision". In their recent phone call, the two presidents jointly conveyed a positive message of strengthening dialogue, exchanges, and cooperation. As the capital of China, Beijing is not only the nation's political and cultural center, center for international exchanges, and center for sci-tech innovation, but also a global metropolis with a celebrated history. Over the years, the friendly exchanges and mutually beneficial cooperation between Beijing and San Francisco have borne fruitful outcomes. We look forward to working with San Francisco to implement the presidential consensus, enhance exchanges and mutual learning in urban governance, and expand mutually beneficial cooperation in fields such as economy, trade, and investment, as well as people-to-people exchanges. With such sub-national engagements, we hope to contribute to a healthy and stable China-U.S. relationship.
Breed said San Francisco is willing to leverage sub-national engagements, build more bridges for people-to-people exchanges, and further strengthen cooperation with Beijing in economy, trade, tourism, education, and other sectors, so as to steer U.S.-China relations towards greater progress.
