On the afternoon of March 27, Yin Yong, Mayor of Beijing, met with David Messer, Founder and CEO of Freepoint Commodities LLC.

In the meeting, Yin stated that Beijing has been making concerted efforts to cut carbon emissions, reduce pollution, expand green development, and pursue economic growth, achieving steady progress toward carbon peaking and neutrality. The city has also endeavored to improve its energy mix, scale up externally sourced green electricity, develop a high-quality new energy vehicle industry, and promote green architecture. It is the best performer among all provincial-level jurisdictions in China in indicators such as energy and water consumption per 10,000 yuan of local GDP. Beijing also works actively to grow green finance, with the national voluntary greenhouse gas emissions reduction trading market developed by the China Beijing Green Exchange (CBGEX) officially launched in the city. Freepoint Commodities is encouraged to leverage its international footprint to help connect China’s voluntary carbon market and relevant local companies with the global market. The city will continuously improve its “service package” and “service steward” systems to foster a market-oriented, law-based, and accessible business climate in keeping with international standards, thereby supporting businesses of all types to thrive in Beijing.

Seeing China’s carbon reduction market as immensely potential, Messer said that Freepoint Commodities would leverage its expertise in international carbon emissions trading and carbon assets development and management, actively engage in China’s carbon market, and expand its presence in Beijing, in an effort to support the city’s green development.

Mu Peng, Secretary General of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, attended the meeting.
