On the afternoon of April 27, Yin Li, Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Beijing Municipal Committee, met with Daren Tang, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and his colleagues.

Yin said that President Xi Jinping’s congratulatory letter sent to the China-WIPO 50th Anniversary of Cooperation and Flagship Events of National IP Publicity Week 2023 embodied the great importance China attached to IP work. As a national leader in the overall strength of intellectual property rights (IPR), Beijing has carried out fruitful cooperation with WIPO in building an innovative city and using and protecting IPR. It is hoped that WIPO will continue to support the city in terms of building an international center for innovation, improving its IP governance mechanism, as well as patent creation for core technologies in key areas and innovative services for SMEs. Besides, more assistance is needed to facilitate Beijing’s high-standard opening-up, full-chain IPR reform, and participation in more pilot programs of international IPR rules, policies, and projects. Furthermore, Beijing looks forward to working with WIPO to enhance the training of IP professionals, strengthen cooperation with universities and research institutes in the city, and improve the IP literacy of the public.

Daren Tang expressed his admiration for the tangible achievements that Beijing has made in building the IPR system and his hope to deepen bilateral cooperation in promoting SME development, opening up, and talent training. Joint efforts will be made to establish a sound IPR ecosystem in Beijing and facilitate new progress in global IPR protection.
