On the afternoon of September 19, Li Wei, chairman of the Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal People's Congress, met with Kim Hyeon-ki, chairman of the Seoul Metropolitan Council, via video links.
Li introduced the economic and social development of Beijing and the progress of the Beijing Municipal People's Congress and its standing committee in recent years. He pointed out that Beijing and Seoul have engaged in frequent high-level visits and closer cooperation in various fields since they became sister cities. To mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and South Korea, the Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal People's Congress is ready to work with the Seoul Metropolitan Council to carry forward the tradition of friendly exchanges between the legislatures of the two cities. In this way, the two parties can learn from each other's legislative experience in governing a metropolis such as how to refine urban management, develop emerging industries, and ensure ecological conservation. The two cities will continue the exchanges between NPC deputies from communities and their counterparts, so as to strengthen the bond and contribute to the long-term, sound and stable relations between the two countries.
Kim Hyeon-ki expressed the readiness to deepen cooperation with Beijing in areas such as climate change, smart city development and teenage exchanges. In particular, the two legislatures should strengthen communication, thus making positive contributions to the friendship between the two countries.
After the meeting, Li Wei and Kim Hyeon-ki signed a memorandum of friendly cooperation.
Du Feijin, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal People's Congress, and Liu Yunguang, secretary general of the Committee, also attended the meeting.
