On the afternoon of August 23, Cai Qi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Party Committee, met with representatives of Chinese and foreign enterprises participating in the "Walking Davos" event online and offline. Chen Jining, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and Mayor of Beijing, and Xie Zhenhua, Special Representative for Climate Change Affairs of China attended the meeting.
Cai Qi extended a welcome to the representatives of Chinese and foreign enterprises and thanked them for their support for Beijing's development. He said that the World Economic Forum (WEF) has invited multinational companies to visit various places through the "Walking Davos" events. It has built a platform for exchanges and cooperation, which will play a positive role for the international community to jointly cope with the COVID-19 pandemic and promote global economic recovery. In recent years, the Beijing Municipal Administrative Center has developed vigorously and achieved remarkable results, which makes it a perfect place for Davos to walk into. He hoped that people would take this opportunity to deepen their understanding of Beijing and Beijing Municipal Administrative Center and boost mutually beneficial cooperation with the city.
Cai Qi briefly introduced how Beijing balanced the response to Covid-19 with economic and social development. He pointed out that in recent years, we have fully implemented the instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping on Beijing, accurately and comprehensively applied the new development philosophy, actively served and integrated into the new pattern of development, and taken the "five key projects" for development as an opportunity to promote high-quality development. We will continue to deepen reform and opening-up, and build platforms for cooperation and development. We hope that entrepreneurs will have more confidence in Beijing, benefit from policies like the "two zones" initiative and the new round of pilot reforms in Zhongguancun, continue to expand their investment and business presence in Beijing, and achieve better development; give full play to their advantages to participate in and support Beijing's green and low-carbon development by reducing their own carbon emissions and leading the entire industry in energy saving and environmental protection; and continue to present Beijing to the world and offer more opinions and suggestions to help us make the city a better place.
Chen Liming, Chair of WEF Greater China, as well as business representatives gave high praise for Beijing's achievements in addressing the impact of the pandemic on economic and social development, and spoke highly of the Beijing Municipal Administrative Center. Enterprises feel deeply that the environment for trade and investment in Beijing is becoming more free, fair, and just, and that government services are providing more convenience and becoming more efficient. They have full confidence in settling in Beijing and expanding their business in China. Business representatives also put forward opinions and suggestions on green finance, carbon neutrality, the building of an international consumption center city, medicine and health, and technology-driven development.
