On the afternoon of August 31st, the 2021 World 5G Convention kicked off in the Etrong International Exhibition & Convention Center in the Economic‑Technological Development Area of Beijing. Xiao Yaqing, Minister of Industry and Information Technology of China, and Chen Jijing, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and Mayor of Beijing, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches.

In his speech, Xiao Yaqing noted that the convention reflected the development trend of 5G, which echoed the expectations of the industry and enterprises, and was of significance to advancing the development of 5G.

General Secretary Xi Jinping attaches great importance to the development of 5G and has given important oral and written instructions on several occasions in this regard, which pointed out the direction and provided the fundamental guidelines for us to follow.

The 14th Five-Year Plan period is not only a critical period for the large-scale deployment of China's 5G network but also a time of rapid development in the 5G application scenarios and its industrial ecology. 

The MIIT will thoroughly implement the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping. In accordance with the decisions of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, the MIIT will give priority to the development of the network, build and use the network at the same time, strengthen cooperation, open to collaboration, and fully advance the building and application of 5G network so that it can empower every sector, serve and support high-quality economic and social development.

We will strive to accelerate the large-scale deployment of the 5G network with joint efforts, encourage joint contribution and connectivity, and proactively explore application scenarios. We will persist in collaboration and innovation, focus on building an industrial environment and support Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei and other key areas in building platform ecosystems. We will uphold openness and win-win to create an open, fair and non-discriminatory development environment.

Chen Jining expressed his gratitude to all the participants for their support to the work in Beijing.

In his speech, Chen highlighted that as the core of the new generation of information and communication technology, 5G is gradually becoming the key driver to promote digitalization, networking, intelligent transformation and upgrading of the economy and society.

Beijing will unwaveringly implement the decisions of the central government, give full play to its various strengths, including rich technological resources of 5G industrial chain, sufficient reserve of key components, testing instruments with leading performance and a cluster of industry application giants. Beijing will therefore formulate and implement action plans for 5G industry development and promote the application and innovation-driven development of 5G.

In accordance with the building of "Two Zones," we will step up our efforts to play the supporting and leading role in accelerating the advanced deployment of 5G infrastructure, improving security level and building a world-class hub for information communication and digital trade.

We will support the establishment of the 5G cooperation and innovation platform to speed up technological breakthroughs, explore typical application scenarios, and play an active role in developing and promoting standards.

We will improve the protection and the policy support system of investment and financing, talent, intellectual properties, and other factors. With key enterprises as cornerstones, we will bring the upstream and downstream players of the industrial chain together to further build and improve the 5G industry ecosystem, advance high-quality development of the 5G industry and provide Beijing with strong support in building itself into a global digital economy benchmark city.

The World 5G Convention, which has been successfully held twice, is the first international event in the field of 5G. With the theme of "5G+ By All for All," the convention has a combination of online and offline activities, including the forums, exhibitions and application design competition. The convention aims to build a bridge for international exchanges and cooperation as well as collaboration and innovation in the industrial chain, showcase technology innovations and applications, and become a great boost for Beijing in developing high-end 5G technologies and industry clusters as well as building the largest 5G test field in the world.

Relevant heads of ministries and commissions as well as leaders of Beijing, including Lin Nianxiu, Li Meng, Yin Yong and Jin Wei, attended the conference. Experts, scholars, representatives of enterprises as well as some foreign envoys and international organization representatives participated online and offline.
