On March 28, the High-level Roundtable on “Intellectual Property for Sustainable Development” was held in Boao, Hainan Province. Co-hosted by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA), the event focused on how intellectual property (IP) can promote global green innovation and support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Li Baodong, Secretary General of BFA, noted that an enabling IP ecosystem is essential for innovators and creators to succeed in technological innovation. WIPO has made remarkable achievements in protecting IP and encouraging innovation and creation, and together with the BFA, it has launched a host of measures in this regard.
Daren Tang, Director General of WIPO, stressed the importance of highlighting the substantial opportunities that IP could offer for sustainable innovations and technologies, which will contribute to the attainment of the SDGs.
At the meeting, Yu Yingjie, Member of the Standing Committee and Secretary of the Education Work Committee of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, delivered a speech themed “Advancing Innovative Development with Intellectual Property, Enhancing Urban Sustainability”, where he provided updates on Beijing’s efforts to build itself into an international innovation center and to protect intellectual property.
