The reporter learned from Daxing District on March 18, 2021 that in an effort to advance the development of the "two zones," Daxing District will build a world-class, multi-functional international convention center in the Daxing International Airport Economic Zone. Preparation work such as submitting materials for approval and comprehensive planning for implementation is expected to be completed within this year, so as to start the construction as soon as possible. 

Designed in view of the industrial structure of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei, Daxing International Convention Center will perform the functions of the airport economic zone and bring together industries and innovation elements. It will be a high-end complex for international exchanges and exhibitions in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. Giving priority to exhibitions featuring national strategies, world-renowned brands, foreign brands and new technologies, the convention center will especially focus on high-end exhibitions of innovative industries and foster flagship exhibitions in fields such as aviation services, life and health, smart manufacturing, digital economy and trade in services. 

In addition to the convention center, to create synergy, Daxing will also develop a business complex including hotels, cultural, tourism and recreation facilities, business and industrial parks, and apartments to foster a development mode of "convention anchor+." With the convention center and the business complex, Daxing will integrate conventions and exhibitions with consumption to promote the development of industrial and business clusters. 

"We have made a schedule for the project and will work harder to implement the project as soon as possible," said Liao Zihan, Deputy Manager of Beijing New Aerotropolis Holdings Co., Ltd., the core platform of the Daxing International Airport Economic Zone. "The exhibition area and construction of the convention center will follow international standards. Upon completion, it is expected to be a powerful driver of convention economy in Beijing." 

The administrative committee of the Daxing International Airport Economic Zone and Beijing New Aerotropolis Holdings Co., Ltd. have solicited advice on planning for the project from around the world by various means, such as organizing expert panels, forums and seminars on exhibitions and conventions, and creating a database of big data of the exhibition and convention industry. To make the convention center a benchmark project, the Daxing International Airport Economic Zone released its project concept in July 2020 to recruit top investment and operation teams, which attracted leading institutions and professionals worldwide. 

Daxing District looks to promote industries involving transactions with foreign countries through major projects. According to Liao, efforts will be made to implement the target project as soon as possible. Meanwhile, they will follow the trend of development in the exhibition and convention industry to foster an ecology for exhibitions and conventions centered on international innovation-based industries, in which the international flows of goods, capital and information will be combined to provide a platform for exhibition of the latest achievements of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei in sci-tech innovation, reform and opening-up.
