The press conference of 2020 ZGC Forum held yesterday witnessed the release of five sci-tech innovation indices and research reports, including the Global Innovation Hubs Index (GIHI) and the Zhongguancun Innovation and Development Index of Global Science and Technology Parks 2020. Eight key innovations and policies were unveiled, including the cutting-edge optoelectronic semiconductor device and integration technology, the new memory device and integration technology, the measures for strengthening high-value patent operation and commercialization, and the measures for promoting commercialization of Zhongguancun's pioneering products. Six new innovation platforms and clusters were also announced at the press conference.
According to the GIHI 2020 jointly released by Springer Nature and Tsinghua University, Beijing ranked fifth place among sci-tech innovation hubs across the world. The 2020 Nature Index Global Science City ranking was also unveiled, which was based on an analysis of papers published in 82 high-quality science journals and assessment of key cities in the world. Beijing remained No. 1 in this year's ranking.
A promising solution against eavesdropping was announced at the press conference. Long Guilu, adjunct member of Beijing Academy of Quantum Information Sciences and professor of Tsinghua University, revealed that his team had recently implemented the world's first quantum secure direct communication (QSDC) system and completed all functionality and stability tests. The system can operate with a communication rate of 4kb/s with a 10km optical fiber link, bringing QSDC further toward practical applications.
The Institute of Semiconductors of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) presented its optoelectronic device and integration technology, which is among the major achievements of the CAS Pioneer Initiative during its first stage. The institute has developed a series of autonomous optoelectronic devices and provided strong backing for a number of national-level projects in China.
Beijing Academy of Blockchain and Edge Computing (BABEC) showcased a new-type blockchain infrastructure platform, which is expected to stand out from overseas platforms and propel the revolution of blockchain production from manual to automated process.
The Administrative Committee of Zhongguancun Science Park released the measures for promoting commercialization of Zhongguancun's pioneering products, specifying seven measures to tackle the pain points and last-mile problem in this regard. Zhongguancun Science Park will grant a subsidy of no more than 30% of the contract amount to the R&D organizations whose pioneering products are put on the market for the first time, with a maximum of RMB2 million for products that are first of their kind in the world and RMB1 million for products that are first of their kind in the country.
In addition, six innovation platforms and clusters were launched at the press conference, and exemplary platforms such as China-Germany cooperation platform and China-Japan cooperation platform will be built.
