On September 8, the Night of Haidian of 2020 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) was successfully held at the conference hall on the 4th floor of China National Convention Center. The event was attended by Wang Shouwen, Vice Minister of Commerce and Deputy China International Trade Representative, Cui Shuqiang, member of the Standing Committee and Secretary General of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and Executive Vice Mayor of Beijing Municipality, Zong Changqing, Director General of the Department of Foreign Investment Administration of the Ministry of Commerce, Xiong Jiuling, Director General of Foreign Affairs Office of Beijing Municipal Government, Yu Jun, Secretary of the CPC Haidian District Committee, and Wang Hesheng, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Haidian District Committee and Secretary of Leading Party Members' Group of Haidian District Government. Mr. Wang Shouwen and Mr. Cui Shuqiang delivered speeches.

The Night of Haidian was a showcase for Haidian District's brilliant performance in further opening up the service sector. Guests from home and abroad fully experienced the charm of Zhongguancun Science City, and witnessed the release of the Research Report on Haidian District-based Enterprises' Go-Global Strategy Under the Belt and Road Initiative. The Report pointed out that since the 13th Five-Year Plan was implemented, the direct investment of Haidian District to countries along the Belt and Road and countries that have signed agreements on Belt and Road cooperation has exceeded USD 800 million and USD 1 billion respectively.

Lin Jianhua, Deputy District Mayor of Haidian and Deputy Director General of the Administrative Committee of Zhongguancun Science City, expressed his expectation in his speech that Zhongguancun Science City will strive to become the best pilot zone for China's scientific and technological innovation by improving its innovation capacity. He said, “In 2018, Haidian District began to create an integrated demonstration zone for greater openness in the service sector in Beijing. Since then, it has launched 109 opening-up initiatives in science and technology, internet and information, fintech, culture and education, among other key service areas, and has facilitated the implementation of 48 key projects such as the prototype manufacturing platform of TINAVI, international internet cafes, and Global Health Drug Discovery Institute. In the future, the district will be home to one or two national laboratories and comprehensive national technological innovation centers, and give priority to the building of three to five new flagship R&D institutions. It also will increase investment in basic research, help foster globally competitive companies with annual revenues of more than 500 billion yuan and 100 billion yuan, and foster clusters of emerging industries with technological dominance.”

A signing ceremony was held between the Administrative Committee of Zhongguancun Science City and the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Abu Dhabi Global Market, UAE. Going forward, the two parties will carry out in-depth cooperation in scientific and technological innovation strategy, international innovation ecosystem, investment and financing under the Belt and Road Initiative, international exchange and training of professionals and other fields.
