On the afternoon of December 18, 2023, the Office of Foreign Affairs Committee of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality held the first plenary meeting of the fourth general assembly of the directly affiliated organization trade union. The attendees heard, reviewed and approved the work report and financial work report of the third committee, as well as the work report of the fund review committee of the trade union of organizations directly under the Beijing Foreign Affairs Office. Additionally, members of the fourth committee and the fourth fund review committee were selected during the meeting. Xiong Jiuling, Director General of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, Secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group and Director General of the Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, expressed hope and expectations for the work of the new trade union. Gu Min, Chairman of the Trade Union of Organizations directly under Beijing Municipal Government, attended the meeting and made some remarks.

At the meeting, it was stressed that the third committee of the trade union has adhered to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and studied and implemented the important statements of General Secretary Xi Jinping regarding the trade unions’ work. The committee focused on the central task and served the overall situation. Extensive efforts have been made to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of staff, address practical difficulties, and organize more diversified cultural and sports activities. As a result, the committee has made significant contributions to uniting staff and stimulating their motivation, initiative, and creativity, This has played a crucial role in supporting the efforts to build a center for international exchanges and the high-quality development of foreign affairs endeavors.

The meeting emphasized the importance of maintaining a correct political orientation, with a focus on upholding the Party’s overall leadership as the highest political principle and fundamental guarantee for the trade union’s work. Focusing on capital development in the new era and the building of the working bodies, the meeting also called for efforts to promote and encourage the good qualities of model officials, the value of work, and the pursuit of fine workmanship. The trade union should prioritize the needs of staff, leverage its role to bridge the Party and the staff, and maintain and enhance the political consciousness, advanced nature, and people-centered orientation , thus driving the innovative development of the trade union’s work in the new era.

The meeting stressed the importance of unwavering loyalty to the Party. The new trade union should continue to strengthen the ideological consciousness of staff, enhance cohesion and forge the soul with Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and promote the Party's innovative theories at the community level. The aim is to keep staff closely rallied around the Party. It was required to support the central task by encouraging staff to contribute to improving Beijing’s role as the center for international exchanges and the capital’s foreign affairs endeavors. Focusing on the trade union’s responsibilities, efforts should also be ramped up to create a harmonious and stable internal environment where staff will be guided to follow the principle that “everyone contributes to the development of the Beijing Foreign Affairs Office and share    the fruits”. In this way, the pursuit of individual happiness will be closely associated with a collective effort to make the Foreign Affairs Office better, thus fulfilling people’s value of life and ascending the realm of life through their careers. It is significant to develop the trade union itself. The trade union should continuously strengthen its role as a bridge and break new ground to enhance its abilities to serve staff, ultimately growing into a true "home for its staff".

The new trade union committee convened its first plenary meeting to elect the Chairperson and Full-time Vice Chairperson, and approved the nominations for members and the Chairperson of the women workers committee. Additionally, the first plenary meeting of the fourth fund review committee also took place, where the Chairperson was elected.
