The 45th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) was held in Geneva, Switzerland from September 14 to October 6, local time, focusing on how to boost socioeconomic recovery through the promotion and protection of human rights and provide maximal protection to disadvantaged groups in the teeth of the pandemic. As NGOs with special consultative status at the UN Economic and Social Council, the Beijing Zhicheng Public Interest Lawyers, Beijing Children's Legal Aid and Research Center, and Beijing Women's Federation, a member of Beijing NGO Network for International Exchanges, participated in the session via video link and contributed ideas and suggestions.

Beijing Women's Federation called for more support for women in education, training and employment as in many countries women face greater health and poverty threats because of COVID-19. Beijing Zhicheng Public Interest Lawyers stressed the importance of protecting the legal rights and interests of the disadvantaged and asked for a greater say for NGOs from developing countries. Beijing Children's Legal Aid and Research Center underscored that a friendly international environment and close global cooperation are essential for the realization of the right to develop, and the international community needs mutual help and solidarity more than ever in the face of the pandemic.

In recent years, several NGOs in Beijing have acquired the special consultative status at the UN Economic and Social Council, and have participated in a number of important UN meetings, such as the UN Climate Change Conference and UNHRC sessions. Their engagement in the discussion of global issues has demonstrated the efforts and contributions made by all social circles of China to the fulfillment of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and yielded positive results.
