All districts in Beijing have been proactively implementing a special action plan to improve the international language environment for Beijing Olympic Winter Games with various measures.

Dongcheng
District has broken new ground in foreign language sign review and
explored a "three-step" model, namely "self check, special
check by the third-party, spot check on sign revisions." Dongcheng
will give full play to this model and do a better job of checking
foreign language signs in the district.
In
the first half of 2021, the district studied and designated 32 key
public spaces related to foreign affairs and the Winter Olympics,
including 8 hotels and 5 hospitals that will directly provide
services and support for the Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic
Winter Games, 10 key foreign affairs reception venues, a "Cultural
Golden Triangle" area formed by the Forbidden City, Wangfujing and
Longfu Temple as well as other key public cultural spaces. In this
way, Dongcheng strives to integrate the improvement of the
international language environment into the whole process of
providing services and support for the Winter Olympics.

District will further promote the "three-step" model, ask all
departments to focus on reviewing new foreign signs to see if they
meet due standards and conduct special checks on the setting and
practical use of foreign signs in 32 key public spaces concerning
foreign affairs and the Winter Olympics.

implementation of revision. It has also carried out and completed a
special campaign to rectify spelling and translation errors of over

order to fully standardize road and traffic signs in Xicheng.
Xicheng
District will conduct a law-enforcement check of foreign language
signs, carry out a special revision on foreign language signs in key
public spaces including hotels and hospitals that will directly
provide service and support for the Winter Olympics, gyms and parks
in the district to ensure the full coverage of high-quality foreign
language signs with zero error.
Fengtai
District

Fengtai
District has set up standardized foreign language guidance signs at
12 vaccination locations for foreigners and provided free foreign
language service by volunteers at 26 vaccination locations in the
district, offering foreign language service to foreign-related
service places. In addition, the district standardized foreign
language signs at key public spaces including the district government
service hall and Lianhuachi Park, where more than 1000 foreign
language signs were reviewed and over 10 improper signs were found
and rectified.
Fengtai
District will carry out a campaign of standardizing foreign language
signs in large commercial facilities and key function zones (Lize
Financial Business District and Zhongguancun Fengtai Science Park)
and assess the reserve of foreign language talents so as to establish
a volunteer team for foreign language sign review.
Changping
District

Based
on thorough review on foreign language signs in key areas where
foreigners live as well as key scenic spots, Changping District has
built a database of 1811 signs in Tiantongyuan, Zhao
Mausoleum, Ding Mausoleum, Shenlu Park, Juyong Pass, and Silver
Mountain Pagoda Forest. Suggestions were made to revise the
translation of 173 of them and the translations of 271 of the signs
were selected as standard translations. So far, Tiantongyuan has
completed the revision of erroneous signs according to due standards
while the rest of the areas are still working on it.
Changping District will continue to implement a special action plan to improve the international language environment for the Beijing Olympic Winter Games, carry out checks of public spaces that will directly provide service and support for the Games such as hotels and hospitals. The district will complete the review and rectification of six types of foreign language signs in public spaces by the end of this year.

District has developed a talent pool of 66 people for 7 foreign
languages, reserving talents for foreign-related epidemic prevention
and control as well as the Winter Olympics. In the first half of
2021, the district has sent out over 20 foreign language personnel to
provide Russian, Korean, English and other language translation
services. They played important roles in screening COVID-19 cases
among foreigners, providing quarantine site resident service and
helping foreigners to get vaccinated.

so as to build a team of international talents.
