Established over a year ago, the Beijing China-Germany Industrial Park, a leading demonstration park for China-Germany economic and technological cooperation, has attracted a large number of German enterprises with its philosophy of openness, innovation and integrated development, good service system, well-developed supporting measures and superior business environment. Recently, news was released that more than 10 German businesses in the Park, represented by Sartorius, Viessmann and Vector Foiltec, would increase their production and investment, which symbolizes deeper economic and technological ties between the two countries as well as a new upsurge of investment by German companies in China.

Sartorius Production Base

With a history of more than 100 years, Sartorius is a German company offering hi-tech, high-quality and all-inclusive lab products in fields like biomedicine with quality products and services and comprehensive technology solutions. It is learned that Sartorius is an important supplier of SINOVAC, and it has built partnerships with enterprises like Beijing Hanmi and AnlongBio under the coordination of the Park. Thanks to its early technology presence in biomedicine and long-time partners, Sartorius greeted golden opportunities for growing its business in China despite COVID-19, marching into a period of rapid growth. "A stream of domestic and overseas clients contacted us during the pandemic and we have carried out several cooperation projects together. The build-up of technology and a bigger market allow us to upgrade our techniques and products," said Zhao Yuguang, head of Sartorius Scientific Instruments (Beijing) Co., Ltd.

Sartorius has announced an additional investment of 400 million yuan for the second phase of construction - a 16,000-square-meter area of plant and supporting facilities - to further unleash the production capacity of biopharmaceuticals and laboratory instruments and therefore upgrade its industrial structure. Meanwhile, it has rolled out new precision instruments and measuring devices, as well as experimental research instruments for R&D projects in fields like immunology, oncology and cell therapy, to build up technological strength and core products for the future.

Viessmann's Plant in Beijing China-Germany Industrial Park

Viessmann, a world-renowned heating system manufacturer, is a century-old German firm widely acclaimed in Europe. It has spotted a good chance amid the changing energy situation in Europe and the coming winter as there is a huge demand among Europeans to upgrade their heaters that either consume too much power or are too old. With years of experience, Viessmann has developed several energy-saving products applying new technologies, which have been launched in German and European markets to help people stay warm in winter. "A keen market insight, strong product competitiveness, and a sound foundation of China-Germany industrial cooperation have significantly boosted our sales in 2022," said Andrej Jautze, General Manager of Viessmann Heating Technology Beijing Co., Ltd.

So far, Viessmann has come up with a package of upgrading plans: building an IT/IOT R&D center and an energy exhibition center to develop iterative technologies and products for the European market; further expanding the production capacity of its factory in the Park, so as to make its Beijing factory the supply source of 120 sales branches worldwide in the future.

Reach new heights as another start in market exploration and expansion

Vector Foiltec's Production Workshop

Vector Foiltec, the world's only hidden champion with ETFE as its core business, ranks No.1 globally in terms of technology and processing capacity. Entering China in 2005 and headquartered in Beijing, it has grown its footprint countrywide with a market share of 50% and delivered the nation's largest ETFE foil structure project - the National Aquatics Center, known as the Water Cube. Instead of resting content with past achievements, the executives and employees kept seeking new niches and growth drivers. "As Beijing is strengthening its role as the four centers at a faster pace, it has become a popular destination for major international events. This enables us to participate in large projects such as Parkview Green FangCaoDi and Universal Beijing Resort, and deliver a whole set of design solutions for them," said Han Gengzan, General Manager of Beijing Texlon Foil Technology LLC. After the projects were completed, the company was met with sector-wide praise and won the Magnolia Award, the highest honor in architecture engineering quality.

Operating in China for nearly 15 years, Vector Foiltec can still find new market opportunities and space for development. To better diversify its businesses, it plans to upgrade its facilities, increase investment and production, and harness and share the existing platforms and resources of the Park to provide product support and comprehensive service for more of its businesses in China.

On October 25, the National Development and Reform Commission and five other departments issued Policy Measures to Improve Foreign Investment Quality and Quantity with a Focus on the Manufacturing Sector, a positive signal to boost investment in the manufacturing sector and promote high-quality development with foreign capital.

Adjacent to the Beijing Capital International Airport, Beijing China-Germany Industrial Park is an important part of Beijing's "two zones" initiative and the development of the International Center for Science & Technology Innovation and thus enjoys multiple favorable policies. Besides 260 hectares of industrial land, three million square meters of buildings for office and R&D, and an excellent and internationalized living environment, there is an entry/exit service center for foreigners and an intellectual property public service center to provide all-round and "one-stop" services including trade services, intellectual property protection and industrial cooperation for enterprises in the Park. Application scenarios will be opened in fields like intelligent manufacturing, smart city, autonomous driving, and energy conservation and environmental protection to promote the demonstrative application of new technologies and products and provide more market opportunities for German companies. To date, the Park has become home to 83 German enterprises such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Ameco and Allianz, including 25 hidden champions with a total investment of 4.5 billion euros and an annual output worth 30 billion yuan, fostering cluster development of German firms. Going forward, the Park will keep pursuing high-quality development driven by high-standard opening-up with equality, mutual benefit and pragmatic cooperation as its core, making it a leading demonstration zone for economic and technological cooperation with a strong global influence, industrial competitiveness, and a leading and exemplary role in innovation.
