On June 24, the Standing Committee of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee held a meeting to discuss issues such as improving Beijing's role as an international exchange center. Cai Qi, Secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, presided over the meeting.

The meeting studied the Special Plan for Improving Beijing's Role as an International Exchange Center, and stressed the implementation of the special plan and actions plan. It vowed to make Beijing a chief venue for major diplomatic events of China, a hub that leads global sci-tech innovation, exchange and cooperation, an important window that demonstrates the confidence, diversity and inclusiveness of Chinese culture, and a cosmopolis that showcases China's capability of engaging in global governance. Noting the challenges to public health brought by the COVID-19 epidemic, the meeting emphasized the need of incorporating the health concept into the plan, strengthening public health emergency management, and building a global healthy city. The meeting vowed to intensify the communication and cooperation with sister cities in such areas as public health, medical care and epidemic prevention, and to develop life sciences, bio-medicine and health industries, with a view to advancing anti-epidemic cooperation and the research and development of vaccines and medicines. Video conferencing and other creative approaches have been used to strengthen international exchanges, and a system of indicators needs to be applied to assess the implementation of the special plan on a yearly basis. The meeting highlighted the importance of entry and exit management for the city's ongoing fight against COVID-19, and called for improved services and management in respect of foreign experts returning to Beijing from overseas or expats staying in Beijing to facilitate work and production resumption.

Other matters were also discussed at the meeting.
