To ensure science-based and targeted Covid-19 containment, the quarantine measures have been adjusted for people with potential exposure to the virus in Beijing in response to the Omicron variant, which is found with shorter incubation period and appears to cause milder clinical symptoms.

Quarantine measures for people entering China:

Those who enter China via Beijing shall undergo a 10-day quarantine at designated facilities and another 7-day quarantine at home. After completing the initial 10-day isolation at designated facilities, people who are bound for Beijing will be transferred to their residence in a closed-loop for the rest 7-day home-based quarantine. If they do not have a fixed domicile in Beijing or their residence is not suitable for quarantine, they must continue the quarantine at the designated facilities for another four days. People who are bound for destinations other than Beijing may only leave the city after completing another 4-day quarantine at designated facilities. Nucleic acid tests and antigen tests must be taken as required during the quarantine period.

Those who come to China via other ports of entry may enter Beijing by following policies for domestic travel if they have completed their 14-day quarantine at local designated facilities upon entry. If not, they shall in principle not be allowed to enter Beijing. Those who enter Beijing with less than 14 days of quarantine shall make up the rest of the quarantine time at home or at designated facilities if home quarantine is infeasible.

Quarantine measures for close contacts, secondary contacts and other people with high risk of Covid-exposure:

Close contacts shall undergo a 10-day quarantine at designated facilities and another 7-day quarantine at home. Secondary contacts are subject to 7-day home-based isolation or quarantine at designated facilities if they have no suitable residence for such quarantine. Other people with high risk of Covid-exposure shall undergo a 10-day quarantine at home plus 7-day health monitoring. Nucleic acid tests and antigen tests must be taken as required during the quarantine or health monitoring period.
