The Beijing Tourism Resources Promotion Event is one of the activities for celebrating the 15th anniversary of the sister-city ties between Beijing and Wellington. In February this year, the opening ceremony of the series of activities was held in the Māori Hall of the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa. Chen Jining, Mayor of Beijing, and Andy Foster, Mayor of Wellington, delivered speeches, with the former speaking via video link. Over the past 15 years, Beijing and Wellington have maintained close connections and carried out pragmatic cooperation in various fields including economy, trade, culture, tourism, education, and sports with remarkable results achieved.

With the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics approaching, China’s winter tourism and winter sports are moving into the fast lane of development. Centered on the Winter Olympics and winter sports, Beijing has launched a series of activities including the Beijing Ice and Snow Culture Tourism Festival themed “passionate ice and snow, amazing Beijing”. At the promotion event, the participants discussed how the two cities should continue cultural and tourism exchanges and cooperation against the backdrop of the pandemic. They exchanged views on how to share the tourism legacy of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, as well as the characteristics, strengths and challenges in utilizing Beijing’s winter tourism resources, providing inspirations for the post-COVID recovery and revitalization of the cultural and tourism industry.
