Beijing participates in a video conference on post-pandemic China-Russia local cooperation

On November 12, the local cooperation council of China-Russia Friendship Committee for Peace and Development (CRFCPD) held a video conference, inviting local leaders of both countries to discuss how to give further play to the Local Cooperation Council, actively develop the communication platform for local leaders in both countries, and expand cooperation between local areas. Leading officials of the Beijing Foreign Affairs Office attended the conference on behalf of Beijing.

Representatives of 13 local governments of both sides had in-depth discussions on five aspects – giving better play to the Committee, boosting intelligent trade with sci-tech innovation, advancing urban development with refined energy mix, tapping the potential of cooperation by facilitating cross-border logistics and transportation, and deepening cooperation in mechanical manufacturing. They affirmed the positive role of intensified China-Russia local cooperation in the two countries' joint efforts to combat the Covid-19 pandemic and promote post-pandemic development, and explored new paths and advantageous areas for further cooperation. Xia Baolong, chairman of the Chinese side of the CRFCPD, and his Russian counterpart Boris Titov sent congratulatory letters to the conference. Chinese Ambassador to Russia Zhang Hanhui and Russian Ambassador to China Andrey Denisov delivered speeches at the conference.

The China-Russia Friendship Committee for Peace and Development is a non-government organization founded in 1997 upon the initiative of the heads of China and Russia. With strong support from the Chinese and Russian governments, the Committee has served as the main channel of people-to-people friendly exchanges between the two countries. As one of the 16 councils under the Committee, the local cooperation council aims to implement the consensus on cooperation reached by Chinese and Russian heads of state and promote friendly communication and collaboration between Chinese and Russian local areas in various fields.
