Beijing Sister City International Youth Online Cooperation – Youth · Global Governance kicks off

The Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League, in conjunction with Beijing Foreign Affairs Office and Beijing People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, held the Beijing Sister City International Youth Online Cooperation – Youth · Global Governance event from October to November 2020. The event was aimed to set up a platform for Chinese and foreign youths to communicate and participate in global governance, encourage them to contribute wisdom and ideas to refining the international governance system, and jointly act on the vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind. About 100 young representatives from 29 organizations of 24 countries in five continents participated in the online event.

On October 28, the opening ceremony of the Beijing Sister City International Youth Online Cooperation – Youth · Global Governance event was held at BAIC Group. Secretary of Beijing Municipal Committee of Communist Youth League Li Junhui, level-I Inspector of the Beijing Foreign Affairs Office Yin Fei, heads of relevant municipal departments, diplomats from Vietnamese and Mexican embassies in China, and about 30 young representatives from Beijing participated in the ceremony, while representatives of foreign youth organizations participated online.

In his opening speech, Li Junhui welcomed representatives from various countries and thanked the organizations that have consistently supported the Beijing Sister City Youth Camp. He hoped the online event, whereby different countries and organizations can engage in dialogues, will drive home to the young the global governance philosophy of "extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits", and urge them to contribute their wisdom to the construction of the international governance system.

Yin Fei said in that all countries and cities should make united efforts under the vision of a community with a shared future for mankind in order to defeat the Covid-19 pandemic at an early date and protect the life, security and common interests of all mankind.

At the opening ceremony, videos presenting young representatives around the world reciting the Sister City Declaration were played. Their solemn and forceful words demonstrated the unwavering and pioneering spirit as well as their commitment to jointly creating a beautiful future. Mao Xiaogang, Deputy Secretary of Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League, Vita, project chief of sports federation in Brandenburg, Hyukdae Kwon, council member of Korea-China Cultural Youth Association Future Forest, delivered keynote speeches revolving around "Youth Global Governance". They elaborated on the role and actions of Chinese and foreign youths in building the global governance system, and the significance of their participation in social governance for youth development.

Initiated in 2012, the Beijing Sister City Youth Camp has been held eight times so far, with over 1,000 youths from more than 50 countries and regions taking part in. Organized in the form of multilateral and bilateral activities, the camp has set up a platform of exchange and mutual learning for youths around the world and enabled them to feel the charm of Beijing across the board and China's development in the new era.

The 2020 Youth · Global Governance event is the ninth session of Beijing Sister City Youth Camp and it was held online for the first time.
