2024 New Year Reception for Foreign Journalists in China Takes Place in Beijing

On the evening of February 2, 2024, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the People's Government of Beijing Municipality co-hosted the 2024 New Year Reception for Foreign Journalists in China at the Grand Canal Museum of Beijing. Hua Chunying, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Mo Gaoyi, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and Director General of the Communications Department of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, were present.

Hua Chunying said in her speech that the year 2023 has witnessed significant and far-reaching changes in international relations and solid progress in Chinese modernization. It has been a year of exploration and achievement for China's diplomacy. With fresh impetus for innovation and vitality for development, China's economy continues to serve as an anchor and driver for global recovery. China has upheld fundamental principles in diplomacy, broken new ground, and made solid strides in building a community with a shared future for mankind. As the year 2024 marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics has entered a new stage of greater achievements. It’s hoped that foreign journalists will cover China in an objective and fair manner to help the world better understand a real China in a multi-dimensional and comprehensive fashion, and see the evolving landscapes of China in the new era. Such efforts will enhance mutual understanding between China and the world, and promote global peace and development.

Mo Gaoyi highlighted Beijing's efforts to promote the high-quality development of the capital in the new era, particularly the development of the Beijing Municipal Administrative Center (BMC) and its three cultural landmarks. He expressed willingness to further facilitate the work of foreign journalists and supported them in gaining a deeper understanding of Beijing and telling stories about Beijing in an objective and comprehensive manner. He also encouraged them to witness the growth of this great city, so as to foster people-to-people ties and international cooperation.

Nearly 600 people attended the reception, including foreign journalists and their families, diplomats to China, officials from central ministries and commissions and competent authorities of Beijing, as well as heads of major Chinese media outlets. Before the reception, the foreign journalists visited the Beijing Library and the Grand Canal Museum of Beijing.
