During the 49th regular session of the UN Human Rights Council held in Geneva, Beijing Children's Legal Aid and Research Center (BCLARC) hosted an online side event themed "Protecting Children in the Digital Age: Challenges and Experience of Different Countries" on March 21. Several hundred child protection experts and child law specialists from international organizations including the United Nations Children's Fund, and from China, the Philippines, Kenya, the UK, Zimbabwe and other countries attended the forum. They discussed such topics as protecting children in cyberspace and shared experience and solutions in their countries.

At the event, Tong Lihua, Director of BCLARC, introduced China's legislative progress in child protection in cyberspace and the country's general approach to protecting minors in cyberspace, including refining laws to specify responsibilities of the government, enterprises and other stakeholders, underscoring the primary responsibility of internet companies, and further strengthening judicial support. In this way, he showed the world China's active efforts and extraordinary achievements in the protection of children's rights and interests and presented China's methods and insights to the international community of children protection.

Founded in 1999 as China's first non-governmental organization specializing in children's legal aid and research, BCLARC is dedicated to promoting the protection of children's rights at home and abroad. In 2011, it was granted special consultative status by the UN Economic and Social Council. At present, the Center is actively promoting a program called Global Partnership for Children, to establish an international platform for child protection social organizations in developing countries to exchange ideas. It is also advancing international cooperation in child protection by launching a program to cultivate talents specializing in international child laws.
