After entering autumn and winter, many countries have experienced a second wave of COVID-19. The current situation of the pandemic remains complex and severe. Since October, a number of flights to China departing from Tanzania via a third country have been temporarily cancelled due to changes in the COVID-19 control policy or the “circuit breaker” mechanism triggered by too many imported cases. International travelers still face risks such as cross-infection and being stranded in the airport. In light of these risks, the Chinese Embassy in Tanzania once again warns Chinese citizens and institutions in Tanzania against the severe situation of COVID-19 in Tanzania and advises all Chinese citizens to avoid unnecessary international travels and take stringent COVID-19 prevention and control measures.

1. Try to avoid unnecessary international travels. The airtight space in the cabin and large passenger flows at airports mean high risks of cross-infection for international travelers. As the number of Chinese people returning to China tends to increase significantly at the end of the year and around the Spring Festival, the number of flights from Tanzania to China may not be enough by then, and there is also a risk of travelers coming to Tanzania being stranded there. Chinese citizens are advised to avoid or postpone all unnecessary travels between China and Tanzania to minimize the risk of being cross-infected or stranded.

2. If you really need to travel to China or Tanzania, you should confirm the flight information and COVID-19 prevention policies in advance. Book tickets through proper channels. Pay close attention to flight changes before departure. Confirm whether the flight will fly normally, and prepare for possible flight changes. Learn the entry-exit and quarantine control policies of the transit country in advance. Take a nucleic acid test as required and apply for a green health code for international travel. Do not embark on a journey without getting fully prepared.

3. Take necessary measures to protect yourself before boarding and during travel internationally. When taking a nucleic acid test in Tanzania prior to the trip to China, you should protect yourself from COVID-19 as recommended, keep distance from others, and avoid taking public transportation. After completing the nucleic acid test, stay at home and monitor yourself for symptoms of infection. To minimize the risk of infection during the journey, try to reduce walking in and around the transit airport and keep distance from others.
