A favorable language environment is the characteristic of a global city and foreign-language signs serve as a window for foreigners to understand a city. Since the official enforcement of the Regulations of Beijing Municipality on Fostering a More International Language Environment (hereinafter referred to as the "Regulations") on January 1, 2022, the Haidian District Foreign Affairs Office has continued to inspect and promote foreign-language signs, aiming to foster an excellent language environment for international exchanges and support Beijing in improving its role as a center for international exchanges.

Recently, the Haidian District Foreign Affairs Office and Bureau of Coordinated Administrative Law Enforcement for Urban Management conducted a joint inspection of foreign-language signs in public places and promoted the Regulations. The staff went to Wudaokou Shopping Center and College Road International Talent Reception Hall to check the signs, and gave on-site guidance to rectify any violations of the Regulations. This included situations where foreign-language signs should have been displayed, but were not, incorrect translations, or obvious impropriety. Additionally, the staff also detailed the specific provisions of the Regulations to relevant departments.

Going forward, the Foreign Affairs Office of Haidian District will continue to take the lead in regulating foreign-language signs in key public places in compliance with the Regulations. The Office will make every effort to create a favorable language environment that effectively supports Beijing in improving its role as a center for international exchanges and fully demonstrates the high-quality development in the District.
