This fall, let's follow Bruce Connolly (photographer) to see the exciting changes in the language environment for international exchanges in Beijing. According to Bruce, it has been 35 years since he began working and living in Beijing in 1987! It seems like yesterday, and it's so incredible. He felt as though he would always be youthful because of the rapid development, internationalized services and improving environment here. He hoped to stay in the city to witness its development and changes.

Beijing can provide services for foreign nationals through culture and tourism industry. Convenient foreign-language services hold the key to improving the experience of foreign tourists and making them more satisfied. Today, Bruce revisited the Temple of Heaven, a World Cultural Heritage Site, to appreciate its architectural art, explore the city's history and enjoy the internationalized services.

Regular visitor as he was, Bruce found the Temple of Heaven much more friendly to foreign tourists with its highly convenient foreign-language services now, such as accurate and standardized foreign-language signs, staff speaking fluent English, college student volunteers providing foreign-language services, audio guides, and English maps and guidebooks. No matter how much time passes, as one of the landmarks in Beijing, the Temple will remain as charming as ever.

By documenting Bruce's firsthand experiences, such as inquiry of "Green Card" application at the government service hall, physical examination at the hospital, sightseeing in the parks and filming at the airport, the serial short videos "Knowing Beijing" reveal the city's capacity in providing high-standard convenient foreign-language services in fields like government services, medical care, culture and tourism, and transportation after the implementation of the Regulations of Beijing Municipality on Improving Language Environment for International Exchanges, presenting Beijing's international image as an open and inclusive city.
