On March 18, the Zhongguancun Science City Life Science and Technology Innovation Forum, the first event of the 2021 ZGC Forum, was held at the exhibition center of Zhongguancun national independent innovation demonstration zone. Centered on a new era for medicine innovation, the forum gathered nearly 20 scientists, entrepreneurs and investors in the field of life science and technology from China, Britain, Italy and other countries. The participants, attending either online or onsite, exchanged views on the basic research and transformation of new drugs, the path of new drug development at home and abroad, and financing of pharmaceutical companies.

The ZGC Forum is an important part of Beijing's framework of "two zones" and "three forums." This year's forum is more internationalized, gathering world-renowned experts and scholars, entrepreneurs, investors, and representatives of international organizations and top academic institutions to exchange views and discuss cooperation and innovation. The forum aims to become a global platform to support Beijing’s efforts in building an international center for technological innovation.

The "two zones" refer to the Integrated National Demonstration Zone for Opening up the Services Sector and China (Beijing) Pilot Free Trade Zone, and the "three forums" refer to the China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), the ZGC Forum and the Financial Street Forum.

The 2021 ZGC Forum will hold a series of activities both online and offline, including meetings and press conferences of technology deals involving participants in China and abroad. It will provide all-round services all year long, promise all-year services for one-time participation, and carry out activities in the "three science cities and one hi-tech area" (Zhongguancun Science City, Huairou Science City, Future Science City and the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area), the 16 sub-parks of Zhongguancun Science Park, and the municipal administrative center. A vibrant atmosphere of cross-district and multi-area interaction will be formed.
