At the online regular press conference on October 22, 2020, China's Ministry of Commerce spokesperson Gao Feng said that from January to September 2020, China's outbound investment was generally stable and Chinese enterprises increased investment in some regions and sectors despite the adverse situation. According to Gao Feng, Chinese companies' investment in countries along the Belt and Road routes showed a marked increase, including non-financial direct investment which increased 29.7% year on year to USD 13.02 billion. The increase in outbound investment in the retail and wholesale sector is also significant.

Gao Feng said that the statistics fully demonstrated the high economic complementarity between China and the countries along the Belt and Road routes, and their huge resilience and potential of commercial cooperation. Chinese companies and their counterparts from relevant countries have deepened and substantiated the cooperation for the establishment of the Belt and Road and delivered benefits to the businesses and peoples of the two sides despite the difficulties due to the pandemic.
