This year marks the 10th anniversary of the sister-city relationship between Beijing and Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. As the major event for the commemoration, the exhibition "Beijing-Copenhagen, A Fairytale of Two Cities: Imagine the Sustainable Future of Cities" opened on the morning of November 1 at the Beijing Planning Exhibition Hall.

Focusing on three themes - Eco-Friendly Cities, Green Mobility in Cities and Child-Friendly Cities, the exhibition showcased the charm of Copenhagen and the friendship between the two cities through exhibits, pictures, texts, videos and interactive experience. It also presented fruitful results and success stories of cooperation on urban planning and sustainable development between the two cities, speaking to the sincere wish of both sides to find new opportunities and paths for green urban development, tackle urban governance challenges, and advance sustainable development. The exhibition will last until December 11 this year.

To cement and advance our friendship and bring our bilateral cooperation to new heights, the two governments and the Danish Embassy in China will also hold a series of commemorative events under the theme of "Urban Planning for Sustainable Development", such as academic seminars, outdoor cycling and workshops for children, to promote mutual learning and practical cooperation in the fields like eco-environmental protection, green mobility and child-friendly space.

Since Beijing was twinned with Copenhagen in 2012, centering on sponge city, water-related affairs, and energy-saving buildings, the two cities have achieved fruitful results in exchanges and cooperation over the past years, including the planning for sponge city construction in the BMC, the renovation of Bishui Water Resource Recycling Center, and the feasibility study on energy efficiency improvement of Gaobeidian Wastewater Treatment Plant. With these projects benefiting the people of the two cities, Beijing has contributed to the China-Denmark comprehensive strategic partnership.

Sui Zhenjiang, vice mayor of Beijing, and Thomas Østrup Møller, ambassador of Denmark to China, attended and addressed the opening ceremony, and Sophie Hæstorp Andersen, the lord mayor of Copenhagen, attended and spoke via video link.
