National Centre for the Performing Arts presents online Chinese New Year Concert in Spain

On February 11, 2021, Chinese New Year's Eve, the annual Chinese New Year Concert in Spain was staged online. The concert was an important component of a series of online activities in celebrating the Chinese New Year co-organized by the Chinese Embassy in Spain, the Madrid City Council and the Government of the Community of Madrid.

TVE broadcasts the concert

Upon request of the Chinese Embassy in Spain, with coordination efforts from the Beijing Municipal Foreign Affairs Office, the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) presented the concert to promote cultural exchanges between China and Spain. The audience across the world can enjoy the concert for free through the My Opera Player platform of the Teatro Real. The concert was also broadcast on Channel 2 of TVE on February 13, 2021.

The concert featured renowned Chinese music pieces such as Ode to the Red Flag, A Lovely Rose and My Motherland and I, opera excerpts such as Merce Dilette Amiche and La Traviata, and a song called The Angel Told Me, which was dedicated to the medical staff fighting the pandemic. The concert, a feast of Chinese music and culture, was given by famous musicians. The successful performance of the Chinese New Year Concert during the pandemic satisfied the expectation of local aficionados of Chinese culture, overseas Chinese and Chinese students studying abroad. The outstanding performance of the NCPA was well received. 

The celebrations of 2021 Chinese New Year in Spain were held online and included a wide variety of activities, such as online Chinese cooking competition, cloud temple fair, a zodiac sign exhibition and a reading event. Chinese Ambassador to Spain Wu Haitao, President of the Community of Madrid Isabel Diaz Ayuso and Mayor of Madrid José Luis Martinez Almeida attended online the press conference for the celebrations of 2021 Chinese New Year in Spain and delivered speeches.
