On the morning of December 10, Li Xiuling, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal People’s Congress, met with Manuel Ivan Trejos, General-Secretary of the Latin American Parliament (Parlatino).

Li said that in recent years, President Xi Jinping has held multiple meetings with leaders of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) countries to jointly foster a China-LAC relationship for a new era characterized by equality, mutual benefit, innovation, openness, and benefits for the people. As the most important and representative inter-parliamentary organization in Latin America and the Caribbean, the Latin American Parliament has played a positive role in promoting regional peace and stability as well as China-Latin America cooperation. Legislative exchange is a critical component of China-LAC relations. The Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal People’s Congress stands ready to enhance friendly exchanges with the Latin American Parliament, boost cooperation with sub-national legislatures of its member countries, further promote people-to-people exchanges at the sub-national level, and thus deepen the friendship between the people of China and LAC.

Trejos stated that the Latin American Parliament and China have long enjoyed a good relationship. It is willing to work with the Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal People’s Congress to further bilateral cooperation in areas such as culture, education, and local legislation, thereby enhancing mutual understanding and friendship between the people of the two sides.

Yu Jun, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal People’s Congress, attended the meeting.
