On January 12, 2022, a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the CPC Dongcheng District Committee and meeting of the Leading Group for Improving Dongcheng District's Role in Building the Center for International Exchanges were held. Sun Xinjun, Secretary of the CPC Dongcheng District Committee, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Zhou Jinxing, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Dongcheng District Committee and District Mayor, presided over the meeting.

At the meeting, attendees listened to the report on the work of Dongcheng District during 2021 to improve its role in building the center for international exchanges and major tasks for 2022, conveyed the guiding principles of the meeting held by the Leading Group for Improving Beijing's Role as the Center for International Exchanges, reviewed and approved the revised list of members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the CPC Dongcheng District Committee, and decided to establish the Leading Group for Improving Dongcheng District's Role in Building the Center for International Exchanges. By doing so, the meeting fulfilled its responsibilities of overall planning, coordinating, advancing and overseeing the progress of improving the district's role in building the center for international exchanges. Attendees also reviewed and approved the Working Rules for the Leading Group for Improving Dongcheng District's Role in Building the Center for International Exchanges.

The meeting called for understanding the significance of improving Dongcheng District's role in building the center for international exchanges. To make continuous progress in this regard, all departments of the district were required to have stronger unity in will, enhance their political stance, and make concrete effort while keeping a long-term perspective, strengthen their sense of responsibility, live up to the highest standards, align with international practices, and place emphasis on the vision of "wide-ranging foreign affairs".

The meeting called for giving full play to the Leading Group for Improving Dongcheng District's Role in Building the Center for International Exchanges and making new advancements of this cause. All departments of the district should have a clear understanding of their roles, shoulder full responsibilities, keep firmly in mind the importance of coordinated efforts and work closely with each other. The Leading Group's General Office should take the lead, and improve overall planning and coordination. All member units should fulfil their duty, create synergy, and orderly implement key tasks and assigned projects.

The meeting also called for focusing on the district's development, making concrete effort to complete all the work and further improving Dongcheng District's work in foreign affairs. We should consciously incorporate improving Dongcheng District's role in building the center for international exchanges and its capacity for and efficiency in handling foreign affairs into the overall diplomacy of the capital city and Dongcheng District's economic and social development. We should also continuously improve the city's capacity to deliver services, serve economic and social development, push forward pragmatic communication and cooperation, and build a team of international talent so as to make new contributions to the building of a world-class, harmonious and liveable core zone serving capital functions in the new era and usher in the 20th CPC National Congress with outstanding performance.
